"Poor Bella", or "Attack of the Coneheads"

Poor Bella went in for surgery on Monday to have her female parts removed. Needless to say, she didn't enjoy it. She was sent home with a few pain pills, and a big ugly cut down her otherwise beautiful belly. When we inquired about whether she needed a cone around her head to keep her from licking it, we were assured that females weren't able to reach it because it was further up on their belly, only males get the privilege of wearing such attractive head gear. So she came home, and slept most of the day away while the drugs wore off.

Eventually she regained awareness, and discovered that she had a cut down her belly. This drove her crazy. She would be walking along, and all of a sudden she would freak out, and start attacking her belly, trying to get at it. Pretty soon we realized that she actually was getting at it, because apparently she is a little more flexible than some dogs, so she was able to lick it even that far up. We called the vet, and they told us to bring her in and they would give her a cone to wear, because it could get infected if she licks it too much. So Bella is now the proud new owner of the latest in the doggy fashion industry.

She gets great satellite reception with that thing. We thought about strapping her to the top of the TV for a while...

Apparently the inside of the cone tastes pretty good...

Overall she hates the thing. Every once in a while she will frantically try to get it off, and flail around wildly trying to get at it. Eventually she gives up though. She had a really hard time getting up the stairs the first night. She would go up one or two, and then the bottom of it would catch on a stair, and she would do a face plant. She would then scramble back to the bottom of the stairs, and bark at them, as though they had done that to her intentionally. Eventually she would try again, and get all the way to the last stair... and then face plant again, and then go all the way back down to the bottom and start over. Hopefully she will get used to it soon, since she does have to wear it for another week.

Foxy was feeling left out when it came to blogging, so here are some pictures of her too.

Thanks for the laugh! I can totally visualize Bella face planting and then running all the way down the stairs.
