Alkaline Phosphatase

I didn't know what that meant either. We went in for Benson's one year check up last week and the doctor still had concerns about his weight gain. He was a whopping 16 pounds. We got the go ahead to try out milk products again and were supposed to start him on Pediasure instead of milk to get some extra calories in him. The Dr. wanted to run some blood tests on him and check his thyroid and liver functions. The poor kid got blood drawn and six shoots. It was very sad. We heard back from the Dr this week and she said he had very low protein levels and high Alkaline Phosphatase levels which can be a sign that his bones are breaking down. We immediately started him on the Pediasure and then went into Ensure plus. He is on a high calorie high protein diet right now. Luckily he seems to be taking well to milk so far. We hope this will help him grow normally.
