Pregnancy Update

Well, as many of you know, Christy has been really sick with this pregnancy so far, and everyone wants the report on how she is doing, so here it is.

It has now been about a month and a half since we found out she was pregnant. About 4 days after we found out, she started feeling sick, and began throwing up a couple of times a day. She went through about 4 prescription drugs for nausea, and none of them seemed to work. We had the first doctor's appointment 4 weeks ago (we blogged about it here) where we had the first ultrasound.

As the days progressed, the nausea and vomiting got worse, until she was vomiting 5-10 times a day, and occasionally more. She began to get dehydrated, and the doctor suggested doing IV treatments for hydration, and to get the anti-nausea drugs directly into her bloodstream (since every pill she took came right back up usually). We started looking into this, and trying to figure out when and where to do it, and how much it would cost us, etc. By the time we figured everything out it was too late to do it that weekend (without going to the emergency room), so we planned on doing it early the next week.

That Sunday we went over to my mom's house for dinner, and on the way home this happened:



The blue car was the cause of 3 car accident. We were at the front, and the blue car was at the back. There was an SUV in the middle. There were no serious injuries (not even in the blue car), but Christy was a little worried about the baby, so we set up an appointment with the doctor that Tuesday to have everything checked out. All of a sudden Monday Christy started feeling quite a bit better. This worried us a bit, since that can sometimes be a sign of miscarriage.

We went in to the doctor on Tuesday, and luckily everything looked fine, and the baby seemed to be ok, and had a normal heartbeat. They did an ultrasound just to look around a little, and to find the heartbeat (because they couldn't find it with the doppler monitor).

We were relieved to see this, and hear the heartbeat. Christy continued to get a little better for a while, and even had one day that she didn't throw up even once. This didn't last long though, and was again back to her 5-10 times a day. That has been going on for the past week or so, and we went in for her normal checkup yesterday. They weighed her, and we discovered that she has now lost 17 pounds in only 4 weeks. This obviously concerned the doctor, and we decided to go ahead and start the IV treatment to see if that would help. We did that right there in the office immediately. They put 1 liter of fluids into her, as well as some anti-nausea drugs.


Unfortunately this didn't seem to help much either, and she was still very sick today. She decided she wanted to do another treatment today. We had to go to Instacare to have this one done, because the doctor's office was out of supplies. This time they did 3 liters, and 2 doses of the drug.


So far she is feeling slightly better, and has not yet thrown up (as of this writing) but she still feels like she might at any moment. We are hoping this will help her improve quite a bit. She will probably be going back in for more treatments in a day or two. In fact they even left the IV line in for now since she will probably be back. She may also need to go on a home health treatment where a nurse would come in and administer it daily, or we would change out the IV bags ourselves.
